大小馬站書院群是廣州歷史城區內唯一尚存成群成片古書院的歷史地段，為清代宗祠書院。洲遺址為南漢（距今一千多年）的重要園林遺跡。

  規劃嚴格保護地區歷史文化遺存，以書院文化為核心，兼顧非物質文化遺產展示，適度注入文化展示、商業旅游等多元功能，積極營造珍貴的公共空間，煥發街區活力。本規劃為面向實施的歷史城區保護與更新類項目提供了有益的參考。 

The Academy Complex in Da Xiao Ma Zhan, which once served as the family academy in Qing Dynasty, is now the only historical block in Guangzhou that still keeps groups of academy architecture. Yaozhou Site in this area is a representative site of the garden constructed in South Han Dynasty (over 1,000 years ago). 

The Plan puts the local historical heritages under strict conservation. Centering on the culture of academy, it showcases the intangible cultural heritage, injects diverse functions such as cultural exhibition, retail and tourism and create valuable public space to revitalize the block. The Plan establishes the review process for conservation projects in historic urban area through the Historic City Conservation Commission of Guangzhou Municipality.
