新河浦是廣州市現存規模最大的中西結合的低層院落式傳統民居群和歷史文化保護區，大部分建筑建于二十世紀二三十年代，以清水紅磚墻、民國水刷石、西洋式風格為主要建筑特色。

  規劃保護和恢復歷史風貌，增加公共服務設施和綠地，改善生活環境，滿足新河浦居民提高和改善生活水平的需求。規劃自實施以來取得了良好的社會、環境、經濟效益，成為廣州歷史保護的典范，榮獲2008世界大都市獎第二名（中國首次）。

Xin He Pu Historic Conservation Area is the home to the city’s  largest traditional courtyard house groups which perfectly blend the local Lingnan style with the European style. Most of these historic buildings were built during 1920s-1930s featuring the plain red brick wall, granitic plaster prevailing during Republican Period and the European style. 

The Plan aims to conserve and restore the historical features while highlighting the characteristics and strong humanistic atmosphere of this area. It is planned to increases the public service facilities and green spaces, improve living environment, thus enhance and improve the living level of local residents. 

Since its implementation, the Plan has brought positive social, environmental and economic benefits and set up an example for historic conservation area in Guangzhou. It won the 2nd Prize of 2008 Metropolis Award, which was the first Chinese project to win this Award.
